Fender AmpsThe nearest I've ever come to being a Fender tube amp fanatic was with my Fender Twin Reverb of 66 vintage. I bought that in about 1977'ish and was later spurred on to stick with it because (mainly) of Michael Schenker who used one for years in UFO. Maybe he still does, who knows. Anyway, it was a cool amp, but I always ended up with it at 10 on the volume and it was really loud - in fact one of the reasons for selling it. I could not get that great sustain that others ddid from that amp. It was a well made piece of kit, but it was very heavy, temperamental, blew tubes and at times when everyone in the UK was using Marshall's it was not the thing. Besides, the Marshall tone was superb, even if those amps too were very loud at that time. So, my experience with Fender amps is not extensive, suffice to say, if you play rock, then as Danny Stag of Kingdom Come fame said on his video tutorial said, Fender does not compare with Marshall, Fender use thin board for the speaker and amp surrounds and they do not take the handling of the power in the same way - this affects the tone.... Danny proceeded to bang on the Fender, then the Marshall, and there is no doubt that the Fender was as he described. By the way, his tone came from an 800 Master Volume head and 4x12 cab and it sounded awesome on the video. Check out this video if you get the chance, Danny is a great rock player who id less heard of these days. Take a look at the amps featured on the menu on the left. I have also included a Cyber Twin just so that you can see where Fender is going these days.
